I’ve always known my most dominant genes come from my daddy’s side of the family. I’ve learned over the last few years just how dominant, as well as a more definitive grasp on the path they’ve traveled through the family in order to reach me.

The first picture is me, then my dad, then the next is his mom, and the last is HER mom. There are many things that are passed from one generation to the next. Looks, vocal tones, facial expressions, predisposition for certain disease processes, attitude, and so on. However, there are a number of other things that can be passed down through the family line.

I read something today that really hit me more than any other analogy I’ve heard on the power of prayer, specifically prayers uttered in the name of Jesus Christ. When you give someone else your power of attorney, whether for medical or legal purposes, you are giving that person the right to make decisions in your name. This means that those decisions are as binding as if you were making them for yourself. That is the power Christ gave us with His sacrifice. He gave us the right to pray in His name, knowing that the Father would listen and act just as if the prayer had come directly from His only begotten Son. Isn’t that incredible??

It is the most important parts of the inheritance we’ve been given as children of God. When we have faith in the name of Christ and in His sacrifice, we have the honor of speaking to God with His power behind our prayer. Sometimes it takes a long time to get an answer to a prayer, but I am learning the expectation is that I won’t stop asking… I am instructed to ask, and keep on asking, and it will be given to me. It takes a lot of faith to keep asking for something day in and day out, even when you have no indication that you’ll ever receive it.

Still, that’s the point, isn’t it? Faith is essential, and how do we show God we have faith in Him and in His promises? By not giving up… but continuing to ask, and asking with a surety that you will get what you’re praying for when the time is right.

“In that day you will not [need to] ask Me about anything. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name [as My representative], He will give you. Until now you have not asked [the Father] for anything in My name; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy may be full and complete.” JOHN‬ ‭16‬:‭23-24‬ AMP
