We, as human beings, are easily swayed and controlled by our feelings and emotions. However, God gave us the ability to take hold of the calm and peace instilled in us by the Holy Spirit. He won’t force us to remain calm and He won’t control our emotions for us, but He knows we are capable and expects us to do so for ourselves. When we are faced with pain and distress in this life, God needs us to use the power He has given us to remain calm and keep moving forward.

Some say there is no need to worry about something until you know there is something to worry about. For example, when there is a question about physical health status and we are having to sit back and await test results, why worry until we have the results and they turn out negatively? While there is truth to that point of view, let me take it a step further and say that we needn’t worry even then. In fact, it is at that point we are told to use the power we’ve been given to control our emotions and trust in the Lord, knowing that whatever comes our way won’t be more than we can walk through. Thus, the best thing we can do for ourselves and those around us is remain calm and peaceful in the face of adversity.

“Blessed [with wisdom and prosperity] is the man who You discipline and instruct, O Lord, and whom You teach from Your law, that You may grant him [power to calm himself and find] peace in the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked and ungodly.” Psalms 94: 12-13 AMP

This morning I voiced one of my heart’s deepest desires to my husband, and within ten minutes, that very prayer was answered. It was an extremely powerful and truly beautiful example of how swiftly God will act on our behalf, especially when we are doing our best to live according to His plan and guidance. It is very easy for those who don’t put any stock in faith and in God, Himself, to try and discount the feelings and views of those who choose to live their lives by faith in God. What I have learned for myself, is that there is true peace and power to be found in faith, and especially in a life lived according to that faith.

No, God isn’t going to fix every problem we have, and He isn’t going to simply step in and take away all of the hurt and pain we will encounter in this life. But what He will ALWAYS do is be with us as we face those things, give us whatever we need to get through them, and also give us what we need to deal with any fallout from those struggles, as well. We live in a fallen world, and we are never going to stop facing hard times while we live here. However, by choosing to live with faith, we are going to be given access to strength of spirit and peace of mind that will make all the difference in HOW we walk through the fires of life.
