Do you ever feel lost in a storm. The world around you moving in chaos, yet every day you get up and go. That chaos can be caused by rampaging thoughts in our own head, by tragic or stressful external events, our lifestyles and inability to keep balance in our lives. When we are facing a storm, say a tornado warning sounds, what do we do? Run for cover. It’s in our nature to try and hide from our personal storms.
There are a million ways to hide… we can hide behind our jobs, our devices, our families, our schedules, our addictions, and so on and so on. Many of these overlap. We lose sight of the gifts God has given us, and we fail to give them the time and attention they deserve. We get lost in our obsessions over the circumstances and people in our lives.
God brings blessings to our lives with the expectation that we will use them for the good of others. When we’re so wrapped up in ourselves, or in another person, we’re never focused on doing the will of God. The truth is, if we lose everything and everyone we love in this world, we’ll still have the Lord and thus have everything we need.
As ridiculous as it sounds, I can understand the temptation of living life as a hermit. If you live alone in a cave, you never get invested, and you’re never disappointed. Oh yes, that is a choice I can understand… but that isn’t why we’re here. We are meant to love each other and care for each other. We’re meant to be there for each other when life brings storms our way. God uses us to provide stability and accountability. We need to believe we can depend on the people closest to us.
In reality, the only one we need to worry about depending on is Christ…

“The sea began to be stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles, they *saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened. But He *said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”” John 6:18-20 NASB
